Department Sergeant at Arms Keith Buckhout
I joined the USMC in Oct. 1971 and attended MCRD Parris Island 2nd Battalion (Same wooden barracks my father stayed in, in 1944). After completing ITR, I went to NAS Jax, Jacksonville Fla for Aviation AE school and participated on a silent drill team after class. Upon graduating, I was assigned to VMA 214 Black Sheep squadron 3rd MAW El Toro MCAS, California. In Sept of 1973, I received orders to Washington, DC for US Embassy security training. After graduating I received orders to Belgrade, Yugoslavia behind the Iron Curtain. While there I was assigned to a Special presidential detail in Salzburg, Austria, and then was reassigned to The Hague, Holland, for my last year of embassy duty. In 1976 I mustered out of active duty and joined the reserves VMA 322 at NAS South Weymouth, MA. In 1985 I left VMA 322 as NCOIC of Avionics, and transferred, full time, to the Air National Guard 104 Fighter Wing in Westfield, MA. In 1993 I left the 104th full time and joined the US Postal service and served concurrently in the Guard. In 1995 we deployed overseas for the Bosnia conflict, then again in 1999 for Kosovo. Upon returning to the U.S., I completed my associates degree and switched jobs to become the 104th’s first Human Resource Advisor. We deployed again in 2003 for Iraqi Freedom. In 2010 I changed military jobs again, and became the NCOIC of the base Honor Guard until I retired militarily in 2012. I retired from the Postal Service in 2015. I joined the Marine Corps League in 2014 and in 2015 became the Junior Vice Commandant of MCL Det. 141, rising to Commandant in 2016. In 2017 I joined the MODD and currently hold the office of PDD Senior Vice Pack Leader, Mass Pack. Some of my other retirement endeavors include; (1.) VFW Past district Senior vice commander, past post commander and current State VFW Honor Guard and post VOD coordinator, (2.) American Legion state and post Honor guard, (3.) part time working for a funeral home, and, (4.) assisting on the firing team at Agawam Veterans cemetery when time permits.
